Each winter, WHUCHEM teams in Shanghai and Haikou step away from the desk for outdoor activities that build cross-department collaboration and a healthy work-life balance.
Cycling through Shanghai
The Shanghai team took to the city's scenic routes for a group cycling activity. The ride was designed to encourage endurance and a low-carbon lifestyle while giving colleagues from different departments time to connect outside the office.
Riding at a shared pace also reinforced the value of coordination: the group stayed together, adjusted to different experience levels and finished as one team.
Hiking in Haikou
At the same time, the Haikou team set out on a hiking expedition through local trails. The route offered a physical challenge and a chance to enjoy the outdoors away from daily operational pressure.
For many participants, the hike was as much about conversation as it was about distance. Cross-departmental discussions continued along the trail and carried into the team gathering afterwards.
One team across two cities
The dual-city programme reflects the structure of WHUCHEM's organisation: teams in different locations, working toward the same commercial and operational goals.
